Laura Dern is all set to join hands with Adam McKay and Sony Pictures TV for a limited series based on the investigation that brought the Jeffrey Epstein case to light.
The series, a drama, is based on Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story, written by Miami Herald investigative journalist Julie K Brown. Laura is set to play Brown in the series which will be written by Sharon Hoffman (Pieces of Her). Hoffman will also serve as a co-showrunner along with Eileen Myers (The Night Agent).
Executive producers include Hoffman and Myers; Dern, McKay, and Kevin Messick for Hyperobject Industries; and Brown. Describing the limited series, Sony said, “It's an explosive account of an investigative reporter exposing the secret plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors. Drawing from Brown’s experience as a groundbreaking reporter for the Miami Herald, the book and the limited series follow her relentless years-long investigation that identified 80 victims, persuaded key survivors to go on the record, and led to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrests.”
Before Brown's 2018 report, Epstein was already found guilty of obtaining a minor for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute. After her report in the Miami Herald, Epstein and Maxwell were charged with numerous counts of sex trafficking. This led to the ongoing demands that the Department of Justice release all of its records pertaining to Epstein and his associates and acquaintances, including presidents (Donald Trump and Bill Clinton), royals (Britain's former Prince Andrew), and well-known media personalities.
Alexander Acosta, the Secretary of Labour at the time, resigned as a result of Brown's Herald reports. Several of Epstein's victims were interviewed for the newspaper series and Brown's book, some of whom made their first public statements.
Dern was recently seen in Bradley Cooper's Is This Thing On?. She will next share the screen with Simone Ashley, Amy Sedaris and more in Molly Gordan's Peaked.
