The release of Epstein Files, documents related to two criminal investigations into sex trafficking by financier Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, have turned out to be a Pandora’s box for powerful people around the world with names and controversial images of businessmen and politicians surfacing every day. A few days ago, it came as a huge shock for Indian film-goers when Anurag Kashyap’s name came up in a series of exchanges between Epstein and a few others, where Kashyap was referred to as ‘famous Bollywood director.’ Now the filmmaker has responded to the controversy.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Anurag Kashyap said, “I’ve no clue about this. I get invitations as a speaker, about 15 a month. I rarely respond.” While clarifying that he has never visited Beijing, the Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker also went on to question the validity of the nature of documents, adding, “It’s some random email, that’s self explanatory . The click baits in my name are more popular than my films.”
On January 230, US’s Department of Justice (DOJ) released over 3 million documents related to Epstein.
Among other Indian personalities, Nandita Das’ name was too mentioned in one of the email interactions, where Nandita was mentioned as one of the guest speakers at “Lake District Festival,” an event for which Epstein was being invited.
