Avatar: Fire and Ash's glorious theatrical run has resulted in the film crossing a new milestone at the global box office. James Cameron's third instalment to his blockbuster Avatar franchise has now officially crossed the $1 billion mark, making him the proud owner of four films which has achieved this massive feat.
The worldwide total for the film stands at $1.08 billion, with $306 million earned across the US and $777.1 million minted at the overseas markets. Previously, Cameron's Avatar (2009), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), and Titanic (1997) have surpassed this benchmark. It is to be noted that Cameron is the first and only filmmaker to own three $2 billion-plus grossing movies in the top 10.
Avatar: The Way of Water reached the $1 billion mark in 14 days, while the original Avatar did so in 17 days, highlighting the enduring popularity of the franchise. Avatar: Fire and Ash is among three films in 2025 to have already crossed USD 1 billion, alongside Lilo & Stitch ($1.038 billion) and Zootopia 2 ($1.51 billion), according to 20th Century Studios.
Returning for Avatar: Fire and Ash, are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. Oona Chaplin, known for playing Talisa Maegyr in Game of Thrones, is portraying the antagonist Varang, the leader of the Ash People. David Thewlis, who is known for playing Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter franchise, playing Peylak in the film.
The third part in the blockbuster franchise, Avatar: Fire and Ash begins with Jake and Neytiri's family grappling with grief after Neteyam's death. During the same time, they encounter a new, aggressive Na'vi tribe called the Ash people, led by the fiery tribe leader, Varang, who has allied with Jake's enemy, Quaritch, as the conflict on Pandora escalates to devastating consequences.
The film is currently playing in theatres worldwide.
