The upcoming indie drama Hal has added Jeffrey Donovan, Aidan Quinn and Leslie Bibb to the cast. They join previously announced cast members Alexander Ludwig, Emma Roberts and Ernie Hudson. The drama is inspired by the story of the creation of Convoy of Hope, a humanitarian organisation.
Helmed by Mark Williams, known for Ozark and The Accountant, Hal will be scripted by Mark Edwin Robinson and centres around journalist Hal Donaldson (Ludwig), a journalist whose difficult childhood shapes his belief that storytelling is his way forward. His bond with Doree (Roberts), a talented musician, becomes a source of strength as his work carries him into regions overwhelmed by pain and injustice.
Experiencing human suffering up close begins to challenge his role as a mere observer. As the power of words alone proves insufficient, Hal feels compelled toward a deeper purpose — a journey that ultimately sparks the birth of Convoy of Hope.
Founded in 1994, the organisation has donated hundreds of meals and clean water to millions. It is being run in multiple countries, and they are known for their work providing relief during disasters.
While Donovan will be seen as Dan Oliver, Quinn will essay the role of Professor Tigues, both of whom are educational figures in Hal's life. The role of Hal's mother, Betty, soft-spoken and resilient, will be portrayed by Bibb.
Popularly known for his role as Michael Westen in Burn Notice, Jeffrey Donovan is set to return to films after three years with Wardriver and Eleven Days, both of which are currently in post-production. He was last seen in Surrounded in 2023 on the film front.
Aidan Quinn's most recent performance was in an episode of Blue Bloods. He will next be seen as Jack Walsh in The Walsh Sisters on television and in Cry from the Sea. He is known for his performance in television films like An Early Frost and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, for which he bagged two Primetime Emmy nominations.
Leslie Bibb, who gained fame for her performance as Brooke McQueen on the WB teen series Popular, was recently seen in the third season of The White Lotus. In films, she was seen in Juror #2, helmed by Clint Eastwood. She is currently working on Apple TV+'s Palm Royale.
