It's almost like Michael Jackson has been revived from his grave, thanks to his nephew Jafaar Jackson. While the veteran pop star's presence is dearly missed, the Michael biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua has proved that his legacy lives on.
Videos of the rockstar's performances, interviews, and childhood are being shared widely across social media, with Gen Z discovering the story and songs of the musician. Of the lot, a video of Chiranjeevi's tribute to Michael Jackson has also been making the rounds.
Back in 1985, in A Kodandarami Reddy's Donga, Chiranjeevi recreated the choreography of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' in the 'Golimaar' song. The song, composed by Chakravarthy and rendered by SP Balasubrahmanyam, features Chiranjeevi dressed in red, like Jackson, rising from the dead and recreating the exact same steps performed by the latter in 'Thriller'. Even Radha's reaction is similar to that of the female performer in Jackson's song.
'Thriller', a 1983 song that was made as a 13-minute short film, references various horror films and shows Jackson dancing with a horde of zombies, or those who have risen from the grave. The song, directed by John Landis, is also made like a thriller film with a twist at the end of the short film. Considered one of the most famous music videos of all time, it was the fourth Jackson video to reach one billion YouTube views. The zombie dance, choreographed by Michael Peters for the music video, is re-enacted worldwide by fans and remains popular on YouTube.
Written by John Logan, Michael features Juliano Krue Valdi as a younger Michael Jackson. Nia Long, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Laura Harrier, Jessica Sula, Mike Myers, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo form the supporting cast of the film. Although the film has opened to negative reviews from critics, audiences have welcomed it with positivity. Critics have opined that the film has sanitised Jackson's story, while also appreciating Jaafar's performance.
Last seen in Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, Chiranjeevi is currently busy with Vishwambhara. He also has a film with director Bobby Kolli and another with Srikanth Odela in the pipeline.
