Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is a former serviceman who takes it upon himself to protect a teenager in the trailer of Man on Fire. The series is created by Kyle Killen, who serves as the showrunner and writer.
The trailer shows Mateen as John Creasy, who is running away from the ghosts of his past and chooses to stay away from his former life, attracting enemies. When a young girl, avenging the unfair death of her family, is hunted, he takes it upon himself to defend and safeguard her.
Adapted from AJ Quinnell’s book of the same name, the series follows John Creasy (Abdul-Mateen II), a former US special forces soldier, who is battling PTSD. As he tries to start over, he is pulled back into the fight, this time bigger and harder.
The cast for Man on Fire also includes Billie Boullet, Alice Braga, Bobby Canavale, Paul Ben-Victor, and Scoot McNairy, among others.
Killen serves as an executive producer on the show along with Abdul-Mateen II and Steven Caple Jr, who is directing the first two episodes of the series. Caple Jr has previously directed Creed II (2018). New Regency Productions, Chernin Entertainment, Chapter Eleven, and RedRum are the banners backing the series.
Quinnell's book has been previously adapted into two films. One was released in 1987, which stars Scott Glenn in the lead and was directed by Elie Chouraqui. Another released in 2004, starring Denzel Washington in the lead and directed by Tony Scott.
All seven episodes of Man on Fire will premiere on Netflix on April 30.
