Louis Leterrier is attached to direct a science-fiction thriller, titled Liminal, starring Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Apple TV announced earlier this Friday. The film is an adaptation of Telepaths, a graphic novel by J Michael Straczynski, Brian Reber, and Steve Epting. Best known for his work in the first two Transporter films, Now You See Me and Fast X, Louis Leterrier is set to direct the film from a screenplay by Justin Rhodes of Terminator: Dark Fate fame.
The makers are yet to reveal plot specifics. However, in the aforementioned graphic novel, electromagnetic disturbance contributes to some people in the world, including Boston cops, gaining telepathic powers all of a sudden. A prisoner with a history of wrongful conviction leads a faction who comes into conflict with the telepathic cops as the group tries to get out of a world where they will become targets for their powers alone.
The film will be produced by Zach Studin of AWA Studios, along with Kevin Walsh of The Walsh Company through his overall agreement with Apple Studios.
Notably, Vanessa Kirby's sister Juliet Kirby is also attached to the project as a co-producer.
Kirby's most recent projects include The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where she played Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, and Night Always Comes, starring her as Lynette and also produced by her. The actor's upcoming projects include a film based on Amy Taylor's novel Ruins, which she is set to star in along with Sebastian Stan and produce. She is expected to reprise her role as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman in Avengers: Doomsday as well.
On the other hand, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is fresh from positive reviews for his series Wonder Man. Recently, Marvel Studios announced a second season for Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley. His upcoming projects include a series adaptation of Man on Fire, slated for an April 30 release on Netflix, and By Any Means, directed by Elegant Bratton and co-starring Mark Wahlberg.
Louis Leterrier, meanwhile, has also been tapped to direct the last film in the Fast and Furious franchise, titled Fast Forever.
