Actor Yahya Abdul Mateen II has been cast in Netflix's upcoming TV adaptation of Man on Fire. Apart from headlining the series, the actor will also serve as an executive producer.

Director Steve Caple Jr., known for Creed II and Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, is set to direct the first two episodes of this eight-episode drama series. Ordered by Netflix in March, the series is based on A.J. Quinnell’s Man on Fire and The Perfect Kill. These are the first two books of the author's five-book series which was previously adapted in 1987 in an eponymous Italian film, and in 2004, starring Denzil Washington. Caple Jr will also serve as executive producer, apart from directing.

In this new adaptation of Man on Fire, Abdul-Mateen II will be seen as John Creasy, who suffers from intense PTSD after surviving the most desolate of situations as a high-functioning and skilled Special Forced mercenary. He sets out seeking redemption, resolved to overcome his past and its troubles. But even before he can adjust to his new life, he is forced back into the fire, fighting more than ever.

Yahya Abdul Mateen II's Man on Fire series is written by Kyle Killen who will also serve as the showrunner and executive producer. Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann of New Regency Productions, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and Tracey Cook of Chernin Entertainment, Stacy Perskie for Redrum, and Scott Pennington for Chapter Eleven are also executive producers.

Abdul-Mateen II was last seen in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, in which he reprised the role of Black Manta, alongside Jason Momoa's titular character. Other notable credits of the actor are Ambulance, The Matrix Resurrections and Candyman. Coming up, he has Marvel's Wonder Man, a ten-episode series for Disney+ in which he plays the titular superhero.
