Season 2 of Netflix’s basketball comedy Running Point is getting a major roster shake-up. Justin Theroux and Uche Agada, who previously recurred, have been elevated to series regulars, while eight new faces are set to join the ensemble in recurring guest roles.
The new additions include Robert Townsend (The Bear, Before), Ken Marino (The Residence, The Other Two), Tommy Dewey (Casual, Saturday Night), Richa Moorjani (Never Have I Ever, Fargo), Jake Picking (Top Gun: Maverick, Hollywood), Blake Anderson (Workaholics, Game Over, Man!), Duby Maduegbunam (Caught Up, Sistas), and Aliyah Turner (Power Book III: Raising Kanan).
They’ll appear opposite returning leads Kate Hudson, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, and Toby Sandeman. Familiar recurring players such as Max Greenfield, Jay Ellis, Roberto Sanchez, Jon Glaser, Scott Evans, Rob Huebel, Marissa Reyes, and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley will also be back for the second season.
Running Point launched on Netflix in February and quickly became a breakout, landing in the streamer’s Global English Top 10 TV list for five weeks before securing a renewal. The comedy follows Isla Gordon (Hudson), who unexpectedly becomes president of the Los Angeles Waves after her brother resigns in scandal. Tasked with running the storied basketball franchise that’s also her family’s business, Isla must prove to her brothers, the team’s board, and the wider sports community that she’s up to the challenge.
Behind the scenes, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen created the series and serve as executive producers, with Stassen also acting as showrunner. Hudson is both star and executive producer, while Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis also executive produce. Jordan Rambis produces the comedy under Kaling’s Kaling International banner, in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling has an overall deal.
