Eva Longoria boards Kim Kardashian’s Netflix comedy The Fifth Wheel as director

Eva Longoria is set to direct The Fifth Wheel, an upcoming Netflix comedy headlined by Kim Kardashian and co-written by comedy veteran Paula Pell and Janine Brito. The film, which also features Kardashian as a producer, is being backed by powerhouse production company Gloria Sanchez and Longoria’s own Hyphenate Media Group.

Marking a major collaboration between entertainment heavyweights, the project brings together Pell, known for her razor-sharp comedic writing, and Kardashian, who will play the titular "fifth wheel" in what sources describe as a female-led ensemble comedy. Plot specifics remain tightly under wraps.

The producers were intent on hiring a female director to help shape the film’s vision, and following a series of creative meetings, Longoria emerged as the top choice. Fresh off her directorial debut with Flamin’ Hot, which earned the SXSW 2023 Audience Award and wide acclaim for her direction, Longoria quickly became a key asset to the comedy’s creative team.

In addition to starring and producing, Kardashian is keeping busy with other projects. Her upcoming Hulu legal drama All’s Fair recently dropped its trailer. On the acting front, Longoria was last seen in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip. She has Oh. What. Fun., All-Star Weekend, The Pickup, and Christmas Karma in the pipeline. 

The Fifth Wheel will be produced by Kardashian, Pell, Elbaum, and Ferrell, alongside Cris Abrego and Eva Longoria through their respective banners, Gloria Sanchez and Hyphenate Media Group.
