Kathryn Bigelow is returning to the director’s chair with A House of Dynamite, a high-stakes political thriller that will debut in select theatres this October before landing on Netflix on October 24.
Starring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, the film explores the fallout of a single missile launch targeting the United States as officials scramble to uncover who’s responsible and how to respond. The screenplay is written by Noah Oppenheim, who also produces alongside Bigelow and Greg Shapiro.
The ensemble cast includes Gabe Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke. Additional appearances come from Malachi Beasley, Brian Tee, Brittany O’Grady, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Willa Fitzgerald, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Kyle Allen, and Kaitlyn Dever.
A House of Dynamite marks Bigelow’s first feature since Detroit (2017) and continues her legacy of politically charged, tension-fuelled storytelling. She remains the first and only woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director, taking home the Oscar for her 2009 war drama The Hurt Locker, which also earned Best Picture and four other awards.
Elba’s upcoming roles include Amazon’s Heads of State opposite John Cena, and he’s set to play Man-at-Arms in the 2026 live-action Masters of the Universe. Ferguson, fresh off her role in Dune: Part Two, continues to build on her versatile filmography with this latest project.
