Emily Blunt confirms The Devil Wears Prada sequel begins filming this summer
Nearly two decades after the original dazzled audiences, The Devil Wears Prada sequel is officially headed into production this summer. Emily Blunt, who played the iconic Emily Charlton in the 2006 hit, confirmed the update while speaking to Entertainment Tonight—albeit cautiously.
“Am I allowed to say that?” Blunt asked her publicist with a laugh before admitting that filming kicks off next month. “Can you tell I’m skirting the issue? Can you tell I can’t tell you anything?” she added playfully, keeping the rest of the details close to the vest.
While the script is still under wraps, even from Blunt herself, she confessed, “It’s so weird; I haven’t even read a script. I don’t know. I’m just like, ‘Where is she?’ I don’t know.”
The sequel will once again be written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who penned the original screenplay. Director David Frankel is also expected to return, reuniting key creatives behind the first film.
The original The Devil Wears Prada premiered in theatres 20 years ago this month, starring Anne Hathaway as aspiring journalist Andy Sachs and Meryl Streep as the formidable editor-in-chief Miranda Priestely. Reflecting on the time that’s passed, Blunt remarked, “In a blink, it’s gone by.”
Though Disney has yet to officially confirm the full returning cast, Blunt is widely expected to reunite with both Streep and Hathaway. The sequel was first revealed to be in development last July and now has a theatrical release date locked for May 1, 2026.
Plot specifics remain under wraps, but Lauren Weisberger’s 2013 follow-up novel Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns could offer clues. The book follows Andy, now the editor of a bridal magazine, as she juggles career changes, her upcoming wedding, and the looming shadow of another Miranda Priestely encounter.
