The Devil Wears Prada sequel sets 2026 release date

We had reported last year that a sequel to the iconic The Devil Wears Prada is in works at Disney. The studio has now locked a May 1, 2026 release date for the film which will see Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt returning.

No other cast members, including Anne Hathaway, has been confirmed to be part of the cast. Stanley Tucci, who starred as fashion editor Nigel Kipling in the original, had recently told Variety, "I know they're working on it. If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I'll go to the actor's prison or something."

The Devil Wears Prada is based on a novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger and revolves around the experience of a young woman (Hathway) working under Runway magazine's devilish editor Miranda Priestly (Streep). Directed by David Frankel, the film grossed $326 million from theatres worldwide, and it earned Streep a Best Actress Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for best actress in a comedy in 2007. Patricia Field also won an Oscar nomination in 2007 for Best Costume Design for the film.

The sequel will reportedly focus on Priestly as she maneuvers through her career during the downturn of traditional magazine publishing, while contending with Blunt’s character—now a powerful executive at a luxury conglomerate controlling the advertising budget Priestly urgently requires.

This date change comes as part of a major overhaul of Disney’s upcoming theatrical release schedule, which also included postponements for both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley, is slated to hit theatres on March 27, 2026. Meanwhile, Avatar: The Way of Water will be re-released on October 3, two months ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash release on December 19.
