Freakier Friday, the sequel to Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan's Freaky Friday, had its first premiere in Los Angeles recently. The film has received overwhelmingly positive first reviews from film critics who caught the premiere.
Lohan is all set to make her big-screen comeback with the Nisha Ganatra-directed body-swap comedy film. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere, the actor opened up about her desire to do more serious and dramatic roles.
"I'd like to take on some things that are different; maybe find something that's an action-packed film. Just really show people a different side of me," the actor said while adding that she still loves doing rom-coms. "That's where my home is, and I feel like that's where my fans want to see me," she agreed.
With Freakier Friday has already been described as much bigger than the original 2003 film; Lohan affirmed it by saying, "We have more stories to tell. It's a four-way swap, and there's more music, and there's a lot more physical comedy than the first one, which I love. Any moment that I can pull a Lucille Ball, I'm down for it."
Back in 2003, when the first film came out, Lohan was barely a teenager. Jamie Lee Curtis was, therefore, like a mother figure to her, and Lohan has shared that she has always remained close to her over the years.
Speaking about Jamie Lee Curtis, she added, "She was there for me at a time of my life when my mom was busy with my siblings, and she was kind of like another mother figure to me out here in LA. That's kept us pretty tight-knit over time, and we've always just been in contact."
Set years after the original, Freakier Friday sees Lohan’s Anna navigating life as a mom herself, with both a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. When a mysterious mishap leads to a four-way body swap involving three generations of women, the result is equal parts chaos and growth.
The cast reunites Lohan and Curtis in their iconic roles, with new additions including Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. The film is all set to hit theatres on August 8.
