Netflix has officially set a release date for its film adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation, the best-selling novel by Emily Henry. The romantic drama, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, is scheduled to premiere on the platform on January 9, 2026.
The streamer announced the date with a brief teaser video that features voiceovers from lead actors Bader and Blyth against a sunlit beach setting. “Where does Alex Nilsen stand on travel? Love or hate?” asks Bader’s Poppy in the clip. Blyth’s Alex replies, “I mean, I’ve never really travelled anywhere… But this morning I saw this beautiful sunrise over this place that I’d never been before, and I wouldn’t have if everything had gone according to plan. So love. I’m thinking love.”
Adapted from Henry’s 2021 New York Times No. 1 bestseller, the film follows best friends Poppy and Alex, who have shared an annual summer vacation for ten years, until something drove them apart. When Poppy proposes one last trip to reconnect, the week becomes a chance to repair their friendship and potentially confront long-buried feelings.
Blyth, known for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, plays the reserved and practical Alex, while Bader, famous for My Lady Jane, stars as the free-spirited Poppy. The ensemble cast also includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gauge, Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, Alice Lee, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon.
The film is directed by Brett Haley, with a screenplay by Yulin Kuang. It is produced by Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner for Temple Hill Entertainment. Laura Quicksilver and Erin Siminoff are overseeing the project for 3000 Pictures.
People We Meet on Vacation is one of several Emily Henry novels being adapted for screen. Netflix is also working on adaptations of Beach Read, Book Lovers, and Funny Story, while Happy Place is in development as a series.
