
Much like Jane Grey herself, the televised reign of her namesake show has also proved fleeting. Prime Video has decided to cancel the period drama, which blended romance with fantastical elements. The decision comes just a few weeks after the release of all eight episodes of My Lady Jane on Prime Video.
Adapted from Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton’s novel, My Lady Jane reimagines 16th-century England as a realm shared by humans and shape-shifting creatures called ‘Ethians’. Emily Bader stars as Jane Grey, a normal human being who develops sympathy for the oppressed Ethians, a stance that puts her at odds with the ruling class as she ascends the throne.
The series boasts a star-studded cast including Edward Bluemel, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Jordan Peters, Kate O’Flynn, Henry Ashton, Jim Broadbent, and narrator Ollie Chris. While My Lady Jane garnered generally positive reviews from critics, it failed to captivate a wide audience. Prime Video, which does not disclose detailed viewership data, but the series missed out on Nielsen’s top 10 streaming charts.
Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn served as co-showrunners, with Burgess creating the series. They executive produced alongside director Jamie Babbit, Sarah Bradshaw, and Laurie MacDonald. Amazon MGM Studios produced the show.
