Production is officially underway on The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all reprising their iconic roles from the 2006 fashion-world hit. Disney’s 20th Century Studios confirmed the news with a teaser post on Instagram, featuring two red high heels.
Joining the returning ensemble is Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh, who will play the husband of Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, portrayed by Streep.
While plot details are still under wraps, the sequel reportedly follows Miranda as she struggles to maintain her dominance in an industry rapidly shifting away from print. Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, is now a top executive at a luxury fashion conglomerate that controls vital ad revenue Miranda needs to keep Runway afloat, setting up a tense power struggle between former boss and assistant.
It remains to be seen how Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, fits into the new narrative. At the end of the original film, she famously walked away from the high-pressure world of fashion journalism to pursue a career in traditional reporting.
David Frankel, who directed Devil Wears Prada, is returning alongside screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. Karen Rosenfelt is back as producer.
The original Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2004 novel, was a cultural phenomenon, grossing over $326 million worldwide and earning critical praise, particularly for Streep’s performance, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. The film has since become a staple in pop culture.
The sequel arrives at a poignant moment for the fashion media world. Just last week, Vogue's longtime editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, widely considered the real-life inspiration for Miranda Priestly, announced plans to step down after 37 years.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for theatrical release on May 1, 2026.
