Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of Anna Todd’s recent novel The Last Sunrise is expanding its ensemble. Spanish actor and model Andrés Velencoso and rising star Chloé Sweetlove have boarded the feature directed by Carlson Young. They join Maia Reficco and Eva Longoria in the film.
Set against the backdrop of the sun-drenched island of Majorca, the film follows Oriah “Ry” Pera (played by Maia Reficco), a 22-year-old grappling with chronic illness and a strained bond with her mother. While spending a life-changing summer abroad, she encounters Julián (Fernando Lindez), who brings a spark of hope just as she prepares to head back to the U.S. Eva Longoria is also part of the previously announced cast.
Velencoso takes on the role of Mateo, the romantic partner of Isolde, while Sweetlove has been cast as Amara, a character beloved by fans of the book.
The project is penned by screenwriter Anna Klassen and produced by Todd alongside Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment, Lena Roklin of Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Brian Pitt of Pitt Street Productions.
Todd, best known for her After series — which began as One Direction-inspired fan fiction before being published in 2014 and adapted into multiple films — released The Last Sunrise earlier this year in May.
Velencoso, who gained recognition for his roles in Netflix’s Élite and Edha, has also appeared in Eva & Nicole and Regreso a Las Sabinas. He is represented by A6 Cinema in Spain. Sweetlove, meanwhile, has led projects including Paramount+'s The Crow Girl and the reboot of Bergerac.
