Toy Story 5 will feature the voice of Ernie Hudson in place of the late Carl Weathers’ for the role of action figure Combat Carl.
Pro football player and actor Weathers passed away in February 2024 at the age of 76 due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He voiced the Combat Carl character in the 2013 TV special Toy Story of Terror! and 2019’s Toy Story 4.
Toy Story 5 will see Andrew Stanton, a veteran of the series, returning to helm the project as writer and director, alongside co-director McKenna Harris. Jessica Choi serves as the film’s producer, while Pete Docter serves as executive producer. The official synopsis hints at a unique twist: “This time, it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang face an all-new high-tech threat that changes playtime forever.” Anna Faris is also a part of the voice cast in an undisclosed role.
Toy Story 5 is set to hit theatres on June 19, 2026, promising a fresh adventure for audiences old and new.
