Music composer Sai Abhyankkar has opened up about collaborating with Allu Arjun and director Atlee on the upcoming pan-Indian film Raaka, revealing that he was initially nervous about presenting his work to the actor because of his keen understanding of audience preferences.
Speaking to Billboard, Sai said Allu Arjun has an exceptional instinct for what resonates with viewers, making the creative discussions around the film's music both exciting and challenging.
"I was very nervous when I was going to meet Allu Arjun sir because he knows what works and what doesn't work. I had that little bit of fear while going and showing him something that we had worked on for Raaka," Sai said.
The composer went on to praise the actor's creative instincts, saying Allu Arjun remains deeply connected to the pulse of audiences. "He knows what works and what won't work with the audience. He's in touch with the pulse," he added.
Sai also revealed that music discussions for Raaka extend beyond the songs themselves. According to him, both Allu Arjun and Atlee actively analyse global music trends, current genres and the listening habits of younger audiences before making creative decisions. "When Allu sir and I discuss music, we discuss all the genres that exist today. The same goes for my director, Atlee anna. We also discuss what's happening currently, what the scene is right now, what people are listening to and what Gen Z is listening to. We discuss a lot of that," he said, before adding, "He's also one great musical ear."
Raaka marks one of the most anticipated projects in Sai Abhyankkar's career. Directed by Atlee and headlined by Allu Arjun, the film is billed as a large-scale entertainer blending science fiction, fantasy and superhero elements.
The film stars Deepika Padukone as the female lead and Chemban Vinod Jose, Yogi Babu and Femina George in prominent roles. While reports have linked actors including Vijay Sethupathi, Janhvi Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, and Kajol to the film, the makers are yet to officially announce the rest of the cast. Produced by Sun Pictures, Raaka is currently under production and is expected to be one of the biggest pan-Indian releases in the coming years.
