Thaman S’ soundtrack for the recently released Pawan Kalyan starrer They Call Him OG has been receiving a lot of love from both critics and audience, touted as one of the film’s biggest strengths besides Pawan Kalyan’s action scenes and the cinematography. However, amidst all the praise, fresh allegations of plagiarism have emerged against the OG composer.
Since Friday night, a clip has been circulating online of the music video ‘Lumi Une’ from the artist Irkenc Hyka. The song, which was released in January 2024, shares striking similarities with ‘The Trance of Omi,’ which Thaman composed as the character theme music for Omi, Emraan Hashmi’s antagonist figure in the film.
Not just the core melody, but also the rhythmic pattern of ‘The Trance of Omi’ seem heavily inspired from the opening verse of ‘Lumi Une,’ which has a Southeast European base in its sound, sharing similarities with the cultural aspects of Turkish music. ‘Lumi Une’ is a wedding song that captures the celebratory element of its rituals and festivities with a boisterous soundscape.
Meanwhile, Thaman’s soundtrack for OG continues to enjoy resounding popularity, especially after the film’s release, where the musical themes are put to great use throughout the film. OG is the first time Thaman has composed for a Sujeeth film.
Produced by DVV Entertainment, OG continues to register strong numbers at the box office, both in domestic and international territories. The film is likely to cross the 250 crore mark by Sunday, in terms of gross worldwide collections.
