Teja Sajja’s Mirai has had a rollercoaster of a first week at the box office. The fantasy action drama, directed by Karthik Gattamneni, opened to an impressive weekend but, as per Sacnilk on Friday, the weekdays brought a huge slowdown.
On its seventh day, Thursday, Mirai collected around Rs 3.36 crore (all languages), bringing its week-one India total to Rs 65.10 crore (nett). The film’s biggest draw remains the Telugu version, which contributed Rs 48.31 crore, while the Hindi release added a respectable Rs 11.25 crore in its first seven days. Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam together brought in less than a crore.
Mirai had a healthy start with Rs 13 crore on Friday, steady growth to Rs 16.6 crore by Sunday, followed by the inevitable Monday drop to Rs 6.4 crore. Despite the dips, the worldwide gross stands at a solid Rs 96.7 crore. For a mythological fantasy film led by a young star, these numbers reflect a strong opening run, though the coming weekend will be crucial to determine its staying power.
Billed as one of the most ambitious Telugu fantasy adventures in recent years, Mirai follows a quest where Teja Sajja’s Vedha seeks the mystical staff Mirai linked to Lord Rama. The film combines superhero tropes with mythology, complete with high-end visuals and stylised action.
Mirai’s ensemble also includes Ritika Nayak, Shriya Saran, Jagapathi Babu, Jayaram, Rajendranath Zutshi, Pawan Chopra and Tanja Keller. The CE review of Mirai notes, “Karthik Gattamneni’s film has grand passion, hit-and-miss visual design, but its few sparks of childlike wonder somewhat hold it.”
