The makers of Ghaati dropped a release glimpse on Thursday, giving audiences a taste of what Anushka Shetty has in store when the film opens on September 5. And if the teaser is any indication, the star is returning to full-fledged action territory for the first time since Baahubali.

Ghaati’s glimpse is centred around Sheelavathi, played by Anushka, who is caught in the crosshairs of a sprawling mafia and oppressive system threatening her community. What begins with vulnerability quickly morphs into defiance, and eventually into legendary.

The teaser strings together flashes of her journey against the backdrop of high-voltage action. The mood is amplified by a English-lyrics laden rock song scored by Sagar Nagavelli, designed very much in line with the adrenaline-driven soundscape of today’s action films.

Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Ghaati is set in the tribal heartlands of Andhra Pradesh and follows how an unsuspecting community finds itself drawn into the ruthless world of organised crime. Anushka’s Sheelavathi starts out as a bus conductor leading a modest life with her partner Raju (Vikram Prabhu). But when her people are cornered by the drug trade, she is forced into a battle that changes the course of her life.

The supporting cast has Jagapathi Babu, Chaitanya Rao, and Ravindra Vijay. With dialogues penned by Sai Madhav Burra, cinematography by Manojh Reddy Katasani, and art direction from National Award-winner Thota Tharani, the film arrives with a strong technical team behind it.

Produced by UV Creations and First Frame Entertainments, Ghaati also marks a tonal shift for Anushka, who was last seen in the lighter, romantic-comedy space of Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty. The film is set for a theatrical release on September 5, where it will open alongside Mouli’s Little Hearts.
