Rajamouli's SSMB29 to shatter records with 120-country release; confirms Kenyan media

SS Rajamouli's highly anticipated collaboration with Mahesh Babu is set to rewrite the rulebook for Indian cinema's global reach, as per Kenyan media outlet, The Star. SSMB29, currently being filmed across Kenya's breathtaking locations, is being planned to release in an unprecedented 120 countries, according to Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi who also took to X (formerly Twitter) to post about the same.

The confirmation came during a meeting between Rajamouli's team and the Kenyan minister, who revealed the film's staggering global ambitions. He wrote, "From the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara to the scenic Naivasha, the rugged Samburu, and the iconic Amboseli, Kenya’s landscapes are now etched into what is set to become the largest film production in Asia. Scheduled for release in over 120 countries, the movie is expected to reach more than a billion viewers worldwide."

The Secretary further wrote that the director's 120-strong crew selected Kenya after an extensive scouting tour across East Africa, with nearly 95% of the African sequences being shot there. With a reported budget exceeding Rs 1,000 crore, SSMB29 is Rajamouli's next venture after RRR.

Whilst Kenyan media reports suggest SSMB29 will be split into two parts, industry reports indicate Rajamouli may opt for a single-part release. The film has been billed and referred to as a "Globetrotter" by the film team.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran are unofficially a part of the Mahesh Babu starrer, with reports confirming Priyanka recently filmed sequences featuring the traditional Mayurbhanj Chhau dance form.

The film's March 2027 release date positions it as a major cultural export, with Mudavadi noting that the production showcases Kenya's landscapes to over a billion potential viewers worldwide. Oscar winner MM Keeravani returns as composer, whilst Vijayendra Prasad provides the screenplay. With the first look scheduled for November 2025, SSMB29 is already generating unprecedented excitement.
