Earlier, we reported about Akshaye Khanna joining creator Prasanth Varma's film Mahakali, the third instalment in the filmmaker's eponymous cinematic universe. The latest development from the film is that Bhoomi Shetty has been roped in to play the titular role of Maha. Making the announcement with a character poster for Bhoomi, Prasanth wrote, "From the cosmic womb of creation awakens the most FEROCIOUS SUPERHERO of the universe! Introducing Bhoomi Shetty as MAHA."

Mahakali marks the third film in the so-called Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe, the first two being Hanu-Man and the upcoming Adhira. Puja Aparna Kolluru of Martin Luther King fame is directing the film featuring a female superhero from Prasanth's screenplay, based on the latter's own story. Riwaz Ramesh Duggal is producing it through his banner RKD Studios, whereas RK Duggal is presenting it.

Akshaye Khanna plays a character named Asuraguru Shukracharya in it. According to a recent statement from the makers, "Set in Bengal, a region deeply connected to Goddess Kali, the movie will capture the essence of the land and its deep-rooted traditions. This powerful and socially relevant film will feature a bold and refreshing portrayal of the revered Goddess Kali by a dark-skinned actress in the lead role, breaking stereotypes and redefining beauty standards in Indian cinema."

On the technical front, Mahakali has cinematography by Suresh Ragutu, editing by Saibabu Talari, music by Smaran Sai, stunts by A Vijay, costumes by Shilpa GNS, and production design by Sri Nagendra Tangala.
