Allu Arjun calls Shiva ‘one of the most iconic Indian films ever,’ ahead of it’s re-release

The 1989 cult film will have a grand re-release in theatres next month, with 4K visuals and recreated sound

Shiva, the iconic 1989 Nagarjuna-starrer which also marked Ram Gopal Varma’s directorial debut, is having a grand re-release on November 14. On Saturday, Pushpa star Allu Arjun spoke about the film, expressing his pleasure at the re-release news, and talking about its impact.

In an official video statement released by Shiva team, Allu Arjun said, “Shiva is not just iconic in the Telugu industry but one of the most legendary films in Indian cinema. After this one film, the entire course of Indian and Telugu cinema completely changed."

Further talking about the film’s impact, Allu Arjun lauded Ram Gopal Varma’s vision and Nagarjuna’s performance. “Shiva is not just a movie, it is a turning point in Telugu cinema.”

The makers of Shiva are taking special care to upgrade the technology for the re-release print, which will have 4K restoration-enhanced visuals and Dolby Atmos sound, promising a much more immersive experience than ever before. Addressing the same, Allu Arjun said, “This film is being released again in high quality with Dolby Atmos sound. It’s time to celebrate our classic. This is a movie loved by all of us and one that belongs to our beloved Nagarjuna Garu.”

On a lighter note, Allu Arjun requested all Shiva to carry “two lorries” filled with paper confetti to the theatres to celebrate the movie.

Produced under the banner of Annapurna Studios, the pathbraking action film had music by Ilaiyaraaja.  Originally released in 1989, Shiva became a major box office succes. The film was remade later in Hindi with Nagarjuna, Amala, and Raghuvaran reprising their roles. The director, Ram Gopal Varma, was also the recipient of 3 Nandi Awards.
