Director Rahul Sankrityan has shared an update on his upcoming VD14, starring Vijay Deverakonda, calling it the actor’s most transformative performance yet. Speaking at the promotional event of Dude, Sankrityan hinted that audiences will see a completely new side of Vijay on screen.
“When you see Vijay’s performance in VD14, you’ll be shocked. You’ll witness his Vishwaroopam, a complete transformation,” the filmmaker said, setting expectations soaring among fans and industry watchers alike.
VD14 marks a reunion between Vijay Deverakonda and Rahul Sankrityan after their 2018 supernatural film Taxiwaala. This time, the duo is venturing into uncharted cinematic territory with a large-scale period action drama. Set between 1854 and 1878, during the height of British colonial rule, the film is inspired by real historical events and revolves around themes of resistance, revolution, and identity.
VD14 is being mounted on a grand scale by Mythri Movie Makers, with Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar producing it, and T-Series co-presenting. The film is expected to combine scale and sentiment, aiming to set a new benchmark for Telugu period cinema. Rashmika Mandanna is reported to play the female lead, though the makers are yet to issue an official confirmation.
Reports further suggest that the film may also feature Arnold Vosloo, best known internationally for The Mummy franchise, in a key role, potentially as a British officer. With cinematography, music, and production design expected to be on par with international standards, VD14 is being positioned as a pan-Indian spectacle blending historical realism with emotional drama.
