In a development that’s got fans buzzing across social media, reports suggest that National Award winning composer Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) is all set to make his full-fledged acting debut with Yellamma, the upcoming directorial from Venu Yeldandi, who made waves with his debut hit Balagam. The project is being bankrolled by Dil Raju under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner.
According to industry reports, the makers had initially approached several Telugu stars for the lead role, including Nani, who declined due to scheduling conflicts, and Nithiin, who reportedly came on board briefly before stepping away. Names like Sharwanand and Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas were also floated around online, but buzz now indicates that DSP has been finalised to headline the film.
If confirmed, Yellamma would mark a significant milestone in DSP’s two-decade-long musical career, his first time leading a feature film. Though the music director has made cameo appearances in the past, including memorable bits in Pawan Kalyan’s Atharintiki Daaredi or Chiranjeevi’s Shankar Dada Zindabad, this project would mark his full-fledged transition to acting.
Adding to the intrigue, Keerthy Suresh is said to be playing the female lead, pairing up with DSP for the first time. While official confirmation from Dil Raju’s camp is still awaited, the prospect of seeing the beloved Pushpa composer make his debut has got audiences excited.
Director Venu Yeldandi, who impressed audiences and critics alike with his emotionally grounded storytelling in Balagam, is reportedly crafting Yellamma as a musical social drama rooted in a Telangana community.
