Social media and the industry is abuzz once again, SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s highly anticipated globe-trotting adventure, currently known as #SSMB29 may have locked a new title. If reports are to be believed, the film could be called Varanasi, with an official confirmation expected in November 2025. Previous reports indicated that the title is Gen 63.

Rajamouli, who redefined cinematic spectacle with Baahubali and RRR, is reportedly mounting this new project on an even grander scale. The film internally referred to as #Globetrotter will span multiple countries, including extensive sequences shot in African jungles and lavish sets constructed in Hyderabad.

A key highlight is the Rs 50-crore Varanasi set built at Ramoji Film City, designed to mirror the holy city’s intricate lanes and ghats. The team is said to have opted for a set rather than shooting on location to avoid logistical challenges and crowd control issues.

Adding to the intrigue, unconfirmed buzz suggests that Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron might unveil the film’s first look during his India visit for the promotions of Avatar: The Fire and Ash. While there’s no official word from either side, the rumour alone has sent social media into overdrive.

The film stars Mahesh Babu, reportedly playing a rugged adventurer inspired by real-world explorers, marking a sharp departure from his usual urbane image. Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran are rumoured to play pivotal roles.

Produced by KL Narayana under the Durga Arts banner, #SSMB29 features music by MM Keeravani, with Vijayendra Prasad penning the screenplay. The first glimpse is expected this November, while the global theatrical release is tentatively set for March 25, 2027 across 120 countries, making it one of the widest releases ever for an Indian film.

Whether it’s called Varanasi, Gen 63 or Globetrotter, only the November reveal will have answers.
