After multiple delays in both shoot and post-production stage, Patang is finally set to arrive in theatres on December 15. The youthful coming-of-age film features Vamssi Pujit, Preethi Pagadala and Pranav Kaushik in the lead roles. On Sunday, the Patang team announced its collaboration with Suresh Productions.
Suresh Babu has now decided to come onboard as the presenter for the film. The renowned producer recently watched the film and decided to present the film, after being thoroughly impressed by the unique theme and presentation. This is a rare occasion where a backdrop of kite-flying competition as a sport will be explored in a Telugu film.
Patang is directed by first-time filmmaker Praneeth Prattipati, and produced jointly by Cinematic Elements and Rishaan Cinemas, in association with Monsoon Tales, which is the banner behind the recent blockbuster Raju Weds Rambai. Praneeth has earlier worked as a writer on shows like Tharagathi Gadhi Daati (2021) and LOL Salaam (2021) and the feature film Rajahmundry Rose Milk which is yet to get a theatrical release.
The Patang team announced their release date a month ago, in a series of heartwarming posts on social media that captured their long struggle through the making of the film. The first teaser for the film was released in May last year. In late 2023, the makers had updated that they plan to release their film in Early 2024. The shoot was finally wrapped up in September 2024, but further snags in post-production stage caused the film to be postponed again.
Popular singer SP Charan too plays a significant role in the film. Jose Jimmy, who composed music for the popular web series 30 Weds 21, is the music director for Patang. In the technical team, Shakti Arvind and Chanakya Reddy Toorupu are the cinematographer and editor, respectively.
Upon its release, Patang will have competition against many other mid-scale projects like Shambhala and Champion, the latter of which stars Roshan Meka and also marks Telugu debut for Anaswara Rajan.
