Earlier today, we had reported about crucial scenes’ footage from upcoming fantasy drama Kannappa being missing from the production house’s office. Now, the film’s production banner 24 Frames Factory has issued an official statement on the same.
The banner clarified that the incident happened nearly a month ago, adding, “A police complaint was formally filed nearly four weeks ago, and the investigating authorities have been fully briefed on the identity of those behind this. The executive producer has formally escalated the matter to Cyber Crime authorities to take swift and firm action.”
Sharing details of the missing footage, the makers informed that the hard drive contained an action sequence between two major characters. They also clarified that the two people accused in the complaint are not the employees of 24 Frames Factory, adding, "Their act constitutes impersonation and theft."
The Kannappa makers also claimed that they are aware of the perpetrator’s identity, although they did not share any more details about the same. However, the team did mention being made aware of the perpetrators’ plans to leak more than 90 minutes of the film to derail the film at the box office. “It is disheartening to see such cheap and calculated tactics being deployed from within the industry itself. This is not mischief—it is sabotage, and it reflects a deeply unfortunate descent into personal vendetta-driven behavior,” the statement read further.
The banner additionally urged film-goers to not circulate any pirated content if they come across any, requesting them to ‘stand by the artists and technicians who have poured years of effort into this magnum opus.’
As of now, Kannappa is slated for a theatrical release on June 27.
