Baby producer SKN was present at the trailer launch event for upcoming thriller Ghatikachalam, that was held on Friday. On the occasion, the producer offered his thoughts on the ongoing dispute over revenue share model between producers and exhibitors.
Addressing the subject, SKN said that makers should concentrate more on bringing back audience to theatre in huge numbers, instead of getting entangled in other issues. He stated, “There is a complaint from audience with the films we are making. The percentage of audience is continuously decreasing — that percentage of people coming to theatres should be our focus instead of revenue percentage etc. If more people come to theatres, all problems could be solved.”
The Baby producer also stated that the makers should consider keeping flexible ticket prices, to increase footfalls. He added, “Morning show audiences are decreasing. Maybe uniform ticket prices on all days is also one of the reasons for lesser audience. So maybe we can keep lower ticket prices on weekdays, to attract more college students.”
SKN also reflected on the dying theatre-going culture because of OTT boom and other factors like higher-prices refreshments at theatres. “If we increase the OTT release window, maybe that could revive the theatre-going culture among film lovers.” The producer also noted that star remunerations have remained intact, even though non-theatrical revenues have decreased, citing it as another possible reasons for diminishing boxoffice admissions.
SKN’s other credits as a producer include Taxiwala, Aay and Manchi Rojulochaie.
Ghatikachalam is scheduled to hit theatres on May 31. SKN, alongwith Maruthi, is also the distributor for the film.
