Akella Siva Prasad, the dialogue writer for Kannappa and previously wrote dialogues for Ranga Maarthaanda, has responded to concerns raised by members of the Brahmin community over the portrayal of certain characters in the mythological film. In a statement given on Thursday, Siva Prasad emphasised that the film does not contain content intended to offend any religious or social group.
He said, “I’m a Brahmin, and the director Mukesh Kumar Singh is also a Brahmin from North India. There is no scene in Kannappa that insults Brahmins or any other community.”
The controversy began after the release of a character poster featuring actors Brahmanandam and Saptagiri, who play Brahmin characters named Pilaka and Gilaka. The Brahmana Chaitanya Vedika (BCV) alleged that these characters mock Brahmin traditions and demanded a public clarification from the makers.
Addressing the criticism, Siva Prasad further noted that earlier versions of the Kannappa story often portrayed temple priests negatively, but the current film takes a different approach. He cited the character of Mahadeva Sastri, played by Mohan Babu, as an example of respectful depiction.
Siva Prasad added, “The film was screened for the head priests of the Sri Kalahasti temple. They appreciated it and gave their blessings to both Mohan Babu and Vishnu Manchu. No one spends years and crores of rupees to disrespect any community. These allegations are baseless. The film will speak for itself.”
Vishnu Manchu also previously clarified that the film was made with “utmost reverence for Hindu traditions. Every major scene was shot after seeking blessings and performing rituals.”
Kannappa, a high-budget mythological fantasy drama, is set for a multilingual release on June 27 The film features an ensemble cast including Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the epic action drama is produced by Mohan Babu under 24 Frames Factory and AVA Entertainments.
