Coming week, Telugu film-goers will have as many as 6 options for a theatrical experience — Champion, Shambhala, Patang, Eesha, Dhandoraa, and Bad Girlz. However, all the films slated for release are more or less small-scale be it in terms of their production values or release, Champion being the most ambitious of them. This excessive competition has been a subject of countless discussions within the film industry.
At a promotional event held for their film on Sunday, Patang producer Sampath Maka clarified why they chose to stick to December 25 despite such heavy competition. Addressing a question from a media person, Sampath said, “If you noticed, we were the first ones to declare December 25 as the release date. Slowly, the competition increased. We didnt jump on the date. Other joined in the competition. But we are confident, and are going ahead. Also, Suresh sir watched the film, and expressed his confidence — so we are prepared.
Sampath added, “ It’s not like we need huge number of theatres. We need a small audience at first, and we are confident that the word-of-mouth will take the film to its desired reach.”
While Patang will release in India on December 25, it’s overseas release date has been pushed to January 1. Elaborating on the same, Sampath noted, “In Overseas market, we are releasing on January 1, because we didn’t get date due to Avatar and Anaconda, which have occupied majority of the screens.”
Praneeth Prathipatti is the writer-director for the film. Sampath is producing this film in association with Vijay Sekhar Anne, Suresh Reddy Kothinti, while Suresh Babu is onboard as the presenter. Ramya Vemulapati is the co-producer.
The supporting cast includes SP Charan, SS Kanchi, and Gautham Vasudev Menon among others. By the looks of its trailer, Patang looks extremely well made and fresh in terms of its aesthetics and visual design. Jose Jimmy has composed the youthful, upbeat soundtrack for the film.
