After working in several Tamil and Malayalam films as an actor, Anurag Kashyap will soon make his Telugu acting debut with Dacoit, the Adivi Sesh-Mrunal Thakur starrer thriller that will arrive in theatres in March next year. The actor-filmmaker was also present in Hyderabad on Thursday at the teaser launch event. On the occasion, the actor spoke profusely about his co-stars and director Shaneil Deo, and also talked about what makes Dacoit stand out as a film.
Addressing a question about why it took him so long to venture into Telugu cinema, Anurag said, “My association with Telugu cinema goes to Ram Gopal Varma. Supriya and I have been friends since then. Whenever she calls, I am here.”
Talking about Dacoit, Anurag added, “Dacoit for me is very Hollywood-like film. In the beginning, when I came onboard, I observed that the shooting style is not like how I shoot. Adivi Sesh also has his own style. However, when I am acting, I surrender.”
Anurag then recalled being very impressed by how some of the scenes turned out. He elaborated, “I saw two scenes. First I saw a sequence which I was not a part of. It really moved me when I saw the results. I’ve not seen Mrunal like this ever — this will be a game changer for her.”
Anurag added, “Dacoit looks like a really huge film. The impact is emotionally huge, and the love story is central to the plot. My experience working on the film was terrific.”
The ensemble cast of Dacoit includes Prakash Raj, Atul Kulkarni and Sunil among others. The Telugu-Hindi bilingual is set for release on March 19, 2026.
