Sundarakanda, the upcoming Nara Rohith starrer love story, marks the comeback for Sridevi Vijaykumar, who was a prominent name in the early 2000s. Ahead of the film’s release, the actor spoke about her comeback, what appealed to her about Sundarakanda's script, and more.
Recalling the first script narration for Sundarakanda, Sridevi said, “I was shocked when the director Venkatesh Nimmalapudi told me this story. It’s a very new script, so I asked the director for some time, but he didn’t give me much time.” Sridevi mentions that Sundarakanda is coming ‘with a new very point to make.’ She adds, “As an audience member, I liked this movie a moment. It’s very fresh in its content."
Praising Venkatesh for his vision, Sridevi added, “This is Venkatesh's first film, but he made it with the experience of a veteran. Venkatesh has great clarity on what he wants, and is extremely confident in his working.”
Talking about her role in Sundarakanda, Sridevi states, “My character has many different emotions here. I haven’t done a character like this before.” On a lighter note, the actor recalls the excitement when she had to wear a school uniform for some scenes. “I took a lot of photos and saved them. It was a memorable experience, “ she said.
Sridevi’s last Telugu film, Veera, came nearly 14 years ago. Reflecting on her working experience in the industry and the changes, the actor noted, “Everything seemed new to me initially, there have been so many changes. Everything has become technically easier, and the working style of direction department has changed too.”
What hasn’t changed, however, Sridevi shares, is the friendship with her Eeswar co-star Prabhas. “Even now, he smiles and talks like a child. We all knew that he would become a big star during Eeswar, but he became a bigger star than any of us expected,” she says.
Sundarakanda hits theatres on August 27.
