4 Idiots is about four friends who are involved in the profession of stealing. All four of them are a little foolish. Just as their lives are going on this way, the COVID-19 pandemic becomes a major disaster in everyone's life. Since they cannot go out and continue their profession as they did before during the lockdown, they decide to commit one final theft and settle down.

At that point, they hear an audio leak of two people talking about money. They enter an unoccupied bungalow and attempt to steal the money. But as soon as they enter the bungalow, they get caught by the security guard, played by Ravi Maria. Everyone who enters the house gets trapped in a situation from which they cannot get out. How they escape, what they do, and what exactly happened inside that house forms the story of the film.
Although the story is about four friends, Pugazh plays the primary character. With the intention of not overacting, he has performed his role subtly. Pugazh, who remains calm without all the usual antics and over-the-top performance, is certainly something new for Tamil cinema.
As the friends, Kumki Ashwin, Indran Ilangovan and Thidiyan Thiruchelvam manage to bring laughter here and there. Ravi Maria and Vincent Asokan play the villains. Among them, Ravi Maria is present throughout the film as a security guard who comes up with several tricks.
When it seemed that the heroine had been used somewhat glamorously in the poster and for a song, the makers have also added a twist to her character and provided her with scenes that give her something to perform. However, there is neither logic nor depth in her character.
Since most of the film takes place inside a house, cinematographer UK Senthilkumar has the more challenging task of making the visuals interesting. Subash Munirathinam's music is okay.
The film delivers a strong message towards the end. But before getting to that message, the film tests our patience at several points. While the comedy scenes make us laugh in many places, they also manage to put off in several others.
Since even Pugazh's character lacks depth, we don't really feel sympathy for the four people who get trapped and struggle inside the house.
Overall, the 4 Idiots team has tried to present the film as a complete comedy, and they have just managed to pass.
