Anjaan Re-edited Review:
Director Lingusamy’s Anjaan, starring Suriya, Samantha, Vidyut Jammwal and Manoj Bajpayee, released in 2014 as a nearly three-hour film. Over the years, Anjaan became one of the most trolled films in Tamil cinema. A major reason was the director Lingusamy’s pre-release interviews, which created very high expectations. The film, expected to be a turning point in Suriya’s career, ended up facing failure instead.
However, a section of general audience and Suriya fans still say they liked the film, and on social media recently many have even argued that the film doesn’t deserve as much trolling.
Now, after many years, Anjaan is getting a re-edited re-release. The new version has been trimmed down to 2 hours. Usually, re-releases involve colour correction, sound upgrades and technical fixes. But for Anjaan, the team has gone a step further — they have shuffled scenes, moved sequences around, and structurally changed the film. So, viewers will notice several differences between the original 2014 version and this new re-edited one.
Notably, many second-half scenes have been shifted to the first half, and vice versa, to improve pacing. All scenes involving Soori’s comedy track have been completely removed. Overall, the film has been tightened, trimmed and rearranged to offer a fresh experience for new viewers and a noticeably different one for those who have already watched it.
Interestingly, while many scenes and comedy portions have been altered, Lingusamy has kept all song sequences intact. This is because Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music remains one of Anjaan’s strongest aspects even today.
Suriya is expected to watch this re-edited version in the coming days. During the film’s original release, Lingusamy had openly accepted his mistakes. He has once again stated that a filmmaker should acknowledge his own shortcomings rather than blaming the audience for not celebrating the film. He believes the revised version, corrected and reshaped with great care, will be well received both by new viewers and by fans who enjoyed the original.
Overall, the re-edited Anjaan promises to be a distinctly new experience.
