Desingu Raja 2 Movie Review

Desingu Raja 2, directed by Ezhil and starring Vemal, Poojitha, Janaa, Pugazh, Vaiyapuri, Singampuli, RV Udayakumar, Rajendran, and Ravi Mariya, features a lineup of familiar comedic actors. Riding on the success of the first part, director Ezhil attempts to recreate the magic, but this time, both the story and screenplay seem to have been left behind, relying solely on the comedy cast.

Director: S Ezhil

Cast: Vemal, Poojitha, Janaa, Pugazh, Vaiyapuri, Singampuli, RV Udayakumar, Rajendran, Ravi Mariya

Experienced directors are now compelled to reinvent themselves to suit the current landscape of Tamil cinema. The recent failures of some major directors' films stand as clear examples of this need.

The result: What unfolds in the name of comedy throughout the film is an overload of absurdities that often test your patience. Ezhil’s films are typically known for their light-hearted fun and humour, but here, you find yourself searching for the comedy right from the beginning. The entire film feels like an exaggerated school play filled with overacting and chaos.

Only Pugazh and Ravi Mariya manage to evoke occasional laughter with their efforts Desingu Raja 2. Otherwise, the screenplay feels completely out of the director’s control, an apt example of how things can go wrong without a strong grip on the narrative. Vemal, instead of picking a script purely out of friendship, should have paid more attention to the story’s strength.

What was meant to be a comedy fortress ends up as a crumbling ruin, leaving the audience weary and disappointed. The climax is the biggest disappointment of the film—it leaves you in such confusion that you find yourself turning to the person next to you just to confirm, has the movie really ended?
