Karthi’s Sardar 2 has witnessed a drop on its first Friday, with the film recording a lower collection than its opening day amid its box-office clash with Soori’s Mandaadi. The action thriller, which had a stronger worldwide opening on Thursday, has now seen its domestic momentum soften on Day 2.
The film has grossed Rs 10.65 crore worldwide after two days, with Rs 8.15 crore coming from India and Rs 2.50 crore from overseas. Its India net collection stands at Rs 6.95 crore. The film recorded an overall occupancy of 19.3% on Friday across 3,361 shows.
On Day 2, Sardar 2 grossed Rs 2.85 crore in India, taking its two-day India gross to Rs 8.15 crore. Tamil Nadu contributed Rs 1.65 crore, followed by Rs 75 lakh from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Rs 30 lakh from Karnataka, Rs 10 lakh from Kerala and Rs 5 lakh from the rest of India. The film's Day 2 India net stood at Rs 2.45 crore, compared to Rs 4.50 crore on its opening day.
The Friday trend puts Sardar 2 on a different trajectory from Mandaadi. While the Karthi-starrer saw its India gross fall from Rs 5.30 crore on Thursday to Rs 2.85 crore on Friday, Mandaadi jumped from Rs 5.70 crore to Rs 7.65 crore over the same period. The Soori-starrer has consequently moved well ahead of Sardar 2 in the two-day domestic race, with Rs 13.35 crore compared to the latter's Rs 8.15 crore.
Interestingly, both films have earned Rs 2.50 crore from overseas markets over their first two days. However, Sardar 2's worldwide total currently stands at Rs 10.65 crore, while Mandaadi has reached Rs 15.85 crore, giving the latter a lead of Rs 5.20 crore globally.
Sardar 2 also stars SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu, Achyuth Kumar, Balaji Sakthivel, and Rajisha Vijayan, among others. The film is produced by S Lakshman Kumar and Ishan Saksena, with A Venkatesh on board as the co-producer. The banners backing the film are Prince Pictures and Ivy Entertainment.
