Actor R Madhavan's GDN is set to have its digital premiere following its recent theatrical run. On Wednesday, Netflix announced that it will start streaming the film from September 04, Friday. The streamer made the announcement with the caption, "Oru manushan oda vaazhkai indha naatu oda varalaaru" (One man's life is this place's history). Directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, the film is also set to have dubs in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada on Netflix.
Based on inventor GD Naidu's life, the film follows his innovative pursuit and fight for progress amidst opposition from strong authorities, who are hellbent on suppressing his vision. Besides Madhavan in the titular role, the GD Naidu biopic stars Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Thambi Ramaiah, Priyamani, and Dushara Vijayan, among others.
Madhavan has also produced the film alongside his wife Sarita under their Tricolour Films banner, alongside Varghese Moolan and Vijay Moolan of Varghese Moolans Pictures. It brought the two production banners together following collaboration on 2022's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, another biopic, based on aerospace scientist Nambi Narayanan's life.
GDN hit theatres on August 07, Friday, alongside director Arun Matheswaran's DC, starring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles. The film did not perform as well as expected in theatres. According to the latest available data from Sacnilk, the film only grossed 6.32 crore at the worldwide box office.
In our review, Prashanth Vallavan wrote, "Even with all the technical issues, GDN still tries its best to show us how, despite the life-long obstacles, the tall legacy of GD Naidu still shines through, and that the failures are entirely of society and not of the man. The incredible real-life story deserves more than GDN, but it also deserves the conversations and interest currently being showered upon it, the credit for which entirely rests with the film."
