Actor Suriya is reportedly considering teaming up with director Mathimaran, best known for his last film Mandaadi, for his 49th. The film is tentatively titled Suriya49, which is said to be a large-scale action drama set against a coastal backdrop.
According to reports on social media, Suriya is supposedly under discussion with Mathimaran Pugazhendi for an upcoming project, tentatively referred to as Suriya49. The film is said to be backed by producer Kalaipulli S Thanu under his V Creations banner, according to reports. However, neither Suriya nor Mathimaran have officially confirmed the collaboration. Further details regarding the film's storyline, cast and production schedule remain unknown.
Interestingly, Suriya and Thanu were earlier expected to work together in Vaadivaasal, directed by Vetri Maaran. However, the film has faced development delays for some time, with production yet to begin.
If the project is finalised, the film will mark the first collaboration between Suriya and Mathimaran. Suriya's last movie was Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri alongside actor Mamitha Baiju. Meanwhile, Suriya is preparing for the release of his upcoming action-comedy Scene, that is set to hit the theatres on November 6. Written and directed by Aavesham fame Jithu Madhavan, the film co-stars Nazriya Nazim Fahadh and Naslen. The film is produced by Jyothika and Suriya under the banner of Zhagaram Studios. The film also includes Anandraj, Lal, Raj Priyan, and others in key roles. The actor is also working on a film with director T J Gnanavel, tentatively referred to as Suriya48, to be produced by Hombre Films.
Selfie filmmaker Mathimaran Pugazenthi's last film Mandaadi, emerged as a commercial blockbuster of 2026. The sports action-drama starring Soori, is set against a backdrop of traditional sailboat racing in coastal Tamil Nadu. The film explores friendship, rivalry and community pride through the world of competitive boat racing.
While the proposed Mathimaran collaboration has piqued interest among fans, an official announcement is yet to be made.
