Director Sajeev Pazhoor's film Enna Vilai, starring Karunaas and Nimisha Sajayan, is gearing up for its digital premiere. The film, which hit theatres on September 17, is set to arrive on Netflix on October 15 also with dubs in Hindi, Telugu , Kannada and Malayalam.
Enna Vilai received mixed to positive reviews from critics, but the film did not do particularly well at the global box office. According to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, the film failed to gross more than one crore even after two weeks of its release.
The plot follows a fisherman named Thavasi Muthu (Karunaas) who leads a peaceful life in Rameswaram with his close relatives, but his life changes when he chances upon a gold ornament. What initially appears to be a blessing becomes a nightmare soon, as false allegations threaten Thavasi's dignity and peace, making him confront a powerful legal system.
As Netflix mentions in the caption for the release date announcement post, "Oru chinna gold pendant, motha kudumbathoda vaazhkaye thalakeezha maatha mudiyuma?" (Can a small gold pendant turn a whole family's life upside down?).
Enna Vilai also stars Vijayalakshmi Veeramani, Shashaa Shivakumar, Pandi, Mohan Raman, and Rajendran. The film's technical team includes composer Sam CS, cinematographer Alby Antony, and editor Sreejith Sarang, among others.
Sajeev Pazhoor has made his directorial debut with the film. He is best known as the writer of films such as Thondimuthalum Dhriksakshiyum (2017), Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo (2019), and Keshu Ee Veedinte Nadhan (2021). The film has brought him back together with Nimisha after Thondimuthalum Dhriksakshiyum, which marked her acting debut. Recently, Nimisha called it a "special" collaboration before adding, "after nine years you have once again given me a character that is so special and close to my heart..Kanchana."
