Baththa has maintained a decent pace at the box office as it enters its first weekday stretch, with the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer registering a noticeable drop after its strong Sunday. The film, however, has retained a sizeable portion of its weekend business and has now crossed the Rs 13 crore mark in gross collections.
On Day 5, Monday, Baththa collected Rs 1.50 crore in gross at the Indian box office, taking its overall gross collection to Rs 13.18 crore. Its India net collection currently stands at Rs 11.35 crore. The film recorded an occupancy of 25 percent across 1,214 shows on Monday.
Baththa opened with Rs 1.73 crore on Thursday before witnessing a jump to Rs 3.15 crore on Friday and Rs 3.20 crore on Saturday. Its first Sunday brought in the film's best collection so far, with Rs 3.60 crore gross. Though Monday saw the expected weekday dip, the film's Rs 1.50 crore haul was still close to half of its Sunday collection.
Tamil Nadu continues to be the film's dominant market, contributing Rs 11.15 crore to its total gross. Karnataka has added Rs 1.15 crore, while Kerala has contributed Rs 69 lakh. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have accounted for Rs 19 lakh so far, with the film yet to record any overseas collection.
An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "Balaji Tharaneetharan handles Baththa’s characterisation with great sensitivity. The director is careful not to be swayed by the inherent comedic tone of the film. Just because he finds himself in an absurd situation, Baththa isn’t a harmless gangster."
The film has brought Vijay Sethupathi back together with Balaji Tharaneetharan following collaborations on 2012's Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and 2018's Seethakaathi. It tells the story of a fearsome gangster (Vijay Sethupathi) who gets locked in a school toilet by a boy (Sai Prithvi Raj) by chance. Lijomol Jose, Ajay Ghosh, and Arjun Chidambaram are also part of the film's cast.
