Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Baththa has witnessed its strongest day at the box office so far, with the film recording a solid jump on its first Sunday. The Balaji Tharaneetharan directorial has continued to build momentum through its opening weekend, with its fourth-day collection taking it past the Rs 10 crore mark in India net.
Baththa has grossed Rs 11.68 crore worldwide in four days, with the entire collection coming from India as the film has not recorded any overseas gross so far. Its India net collection stands at Rs 10.05 crore. On Sunday, the film grossed Rs 3.60 crore and collected Rs 3.10 crore net across 1,290 shows, registering an overall occupancy of 48%.
Tamil Nadu remains the film's primary market, contributing Rs 3 crore to Sunday's gross. Karnataka added Rs 35 lakh, Kerala Rs 20 lakh, and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Rs 5 lakh. With this, Baththa's Tamil Nadu gross has reached Rs 9.90 crore, accounting for the bulk of its four-day India total.
The Sunday numbers also mark a steady climb for the film through its opening weekend. After starting with Rs 1.73 crore on Thursday, Baththa improved to Rs 3.15 crore on Friday and Rs 3.20 crore on Saturday before reaching Rs 3.60 crore on Sunday. Its occupancy similarly rose from 24% on Day 1 to 48% on Day 4.
Among the Tamil releases currently running in theatres, Baththa has now established itself as one of the stronger performers of the latest crop. Meesaya Murukku 2 and the long-running Mandaadi have continued to post substantial numbers, while Dorothy has maintained a steadier, smaller-scale run. On October 3, Baththa led the tracked Tamil-version box office with around Rs 2.95 crore gross, ahead of Meesaya Murukku 2 at Rs 2.68 crore and Mandaadi at Rs 1.19 crore.
The film has brought Vijay Sethupathi back together with Balaji Tharaneetharan following collaborations on 2012's Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and 2018's Seethakaathi. It tells the story of a fearsome gangster (Vijay Sethupathi) who gets locked in a school toilet by a boy (Sai Prithvi Raj) by chance. Lijomol Jose, Ajay Ghosh, and Arjun Chidambaram are also part of the film's cast.
