On Friday, a video of actor Rajinikanth speaking about Y Gee Mahendra's Charukesi was shared by the makers. In the video, the actor recalled watching the original play that the film is based on, while also sharing his review of the film.
“Charukesi was first recommended to me by Y Gee Mahendra, who urged me to watch the play. I was immensely happy after watching it. The characters, the subject, and the way music was woven into the narrative were brilliant. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I watched the play again the very next week," Rajinikanth recalled.
On the play's technical aspects, he added, "Venkat’s dialogues and Mahendra’s performance convinced me that this story would translate beautifully onto the big screen. So, when they later told me they were adapting it into a film, I was delighted. I was even happier when Suresh Krissna came on board as director because I could immediately visualise how well the film would shape up under him," he explained.
Rajinikanth, who has now also watched the film adaptation of the play, recommended it to audiences. "After watching the completed film, I can say it has come out wonderfully. The film's writing, Deva’s music, and Mahendra’s performance, along with the efforts of the supporting cast, are all truly admirable. Mahendra is a phenomenal performer. I believe this film will stand alongside classics like Sindhu Bhairavi, Salangai Oli, and Sankarabharanam. This is a film everyone should experience.”
The video came a day after Rajinikanth unveiled the trailer and audio of the Suresh Krissna directoral. Headlined by Y Gee Mahendra, the film also stars Sathyaraj, Samuthirakani, Thalaivasal Vijay, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Ramya Pandian, Raj Ayyappa, and Madhuvanthi Arun in pivotal roles.
Produced by R Arun, the film is made under the Suresh Krissna Productions Private Limited, Arun Visualz and Madras Cine Production banners. The makers have roped in Deva as the music composer, Pa Vijay for dialogues and lyrics, Sanjay for cinematography, Richard for editing and Shankar Mahadevan for vocals. The film will be based on the story penned by Venkat and the screenplay by Suresh Krissna.
Charukesi is gearing up to open in theatres on June 12.
