Even before the ceremony began, every time the camera panned to show actor-turned-politician Vijay, fans and supporters at Nehru Indoor Stadium went into an uproar. So when Vijay started his swearing-in speech with "C Joseph Vijay ennum naan", it was expected for the crowd to go into a frenzy and make him pause before he took the oath.
While the governor just began the oath, Vijay rendered it with utmost power and by-heart, without looking at the transcript in Tamil, and assured his voters by making multiple promises for his governance. Here's exactly what he said, translated to English:
“I, C Joseph Vijay, do swear in the name of God that I will have true faith and unwavering allegiance to the Constitution of India as established by law; that I will uphold the unmatched sovereignty and unity of India; that I will truthfully and conscientiously carry out my duties as the Chief Minister of the Government of Tamil Nadu; and that, in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without fear, bias, likes or dislikes, I will do what is just for all sections of people.”
Following Vijay's oath, prominent leaders and MLAs of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, and Sengottaiyan, among nine others, respectively took their oaths as cabinet ministers. Having only secured 108 seats in the elections, the party has joined hands with the Indian National Congress, while CPI, CPI (M), IUML and VCK parties have agreed to give their support externally.
Vijay’s rise in politics has been unusually swift. After formally launching TVK in 2024, the actor managed to convert his massive fan following into electoral momentum within just two years. His success has already sparked comparisons with legendary actor-politicians such as NT Rama Rao, who famously reshaped Andhra Pradesh politics after entering public life.
