There has been growing political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu over Vijay’s plans to stake claim to form the government, as he continues to face hurdles due to the lack of required MLA support. Fans and TVK supporters have remained glued to their screens ever since he emerged as the single largest party in the recent Assembly elections, eagerly awaiting their favourite star’s swearing-in as Chief Minister. While intense discussions with the Left parties over a possible coalition are underway, interest surrounding the actor-turned-politician and his next moves has continued to surge.
As fans have been sharing scenes, songs and dialogues from his memorable films for the last one week, a rare photo of Vijay standing alongside popular actor and martial artist Jackie Chan surfaced on the internet. The photo dates back to 2008 when the popular star visited Chennai to attend the grand audio launch of Kamal Haasan's Dasavatharam. He was the chief guest of the occasion which also saw Amitabh Bachchan, Mallika Sherawat and numerous other Indian film industry legends in attendance. The then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi too attended the event. Its sheer massive scale made it one of the largest audio launches for a South Indian film at the time.
According to reports, the photo was taken after Vijay met Jackie Chan and spoke with him for ten minutes. Expressing his admiration for the star, Vijay said he is a "huge fan" of the actor and mentioned how he always watches all Jackie Chan films several times. He said this while participating in the screening of Kaavalan (2011), directed by Siddique, at the Shanghai Film Festival.
On the film front, Vijay's latest film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, is yet to see the light of the day as it continues to remain in limbo over censor certificate-related issues and legal hurdles, which intensified after the film was leaked online on pirated sites. The political action thriller also has Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, alongside Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani playing key roles. With Vijay inching closer to his endeavour to become the Chief Minister, fans and audiences are anticipating its release soon.
Jackie Chan, meanwhile, is set to come back for Rush Hour 4. The upcoming film from director Brett Ratner is currently in early development at Paramount, reportedly after an intervention from US President Donald Trump. An update on the film's production is awaited.
