Tamil Nadu is on edge as the results of the Assembly elections are set to be declared on Monday, with voters across age groups glued to television screens tracking each round of counting to see who will form the next government.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election has generated unprecedented buzz, particularly following actor-turned-politician Vijay’s entry into the political arena. All eyes are now on the Jana Nayagan star as the state watches closely to see whether his debut has translated into a significant electoral impact.
Of the lot, some of his supporters also come from the film industry. Before the elections, actors Sibi Sathyaraj and Jai, among others, were very vocal about their support for Vijay. On Monday, even as the results are being counted, actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has put out an X post, indirectly supporting Vijay's TVK, as speculated by netizens.
She wrote, "I’m waiting…!!! It’s going to be an exciting day. Tamil Nadu will speak today!! Let’s wait and watch…!!" (sic) Fans have been decoding that the "I'm waiting" line has been taken from Vijay's famous dialogue from Thuppakki, and that the actor is looking forward to seeing how the TVK leader has performed in his debut elections.
Interestingly, Varalaxmi starred alongside Vijay in Sarkar, where she plays a politician and antagonist to Vijay's Sundar Ramaswamy, a corporate raider-turned-politician. Varalaxmi's Komalavalli fights him in elections in the AR Murugadoss film.
On the work front, Varalaxmi recently made her directorial debut with S Saraswathi, in which she also starred in the lead role alongside Prakash Raj and Priyamani. She is currently working on a Sri Lankan film, Rizana – A Caged Bird, which is being made in English, Tamil and Arabic.
On the other hand, Vijay is still awaiting the release of Jana Nayagan, which was recently leaked online a month ago. The film's release is still in limbo, as the Censor Board for Film Certification is yet to provide a censor certificate for the film. With the results scheduled for today, the censor certificate is expected to be provided soon.
