The makers of Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja and starring Dhanush in the lead role, have been on a spree of announcements over the last few days. After revealing the posters for the supporting characters in the film, the film's producer, Vels Film International of Ishari K Ganesh, announced its distributor for Tami Nadu.
Inban Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies is set to distribute the film across the state. Besides Dhanush, the film stars Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Pandiarajan, MS Baskar, and Sreeja Ravi, among others.
Kara brings Vignesh Raja back together with his Por Thozhil co-writer Alfred Prakash. On the technical front, the film has cinematography by Theni Eswar, music by GV Prakash, editing by Sreejith Sarang, and art direction by Mayapandi.
The makers have released just one song from the film so far. Recently, they announced that the song, titled 'Vaaya Ey Karasaami,' has gained more than 10 million views.
Produced by Ishari K Ganesh and co-produced by his daughter Kushmitha Ganesh, the film is set in Ramanathapuram of the early 1990s when the US and Iraq were in war. Speaking to Vikatan about the film, Vignesh said, "Similar to today's West Asia war, oil depots were bombed, causing massive destruction and fires. There was a severe shortage of petrol and diesel. Against this backdrop, the story unfolds over 16 days." The filmmaker added, "Karasaami is forced to revisit certain aspects of his life that he had chosen to walk away from. He tries to protect and support the people who depend on him, and in doing so, faces various consequences and life-altering turns. I have presented this as an emotional suspense thriller, blending engaging storytelling with deep emotions."
The film is slated for an April 30 release in theatres around the world.
